Recently, the finals of the 21st National College Students Transportation Science and Technology Competition came to a close at Beijing University of Civil Engineering and Architecture. Our university's project,”Smart Guardian — A Driver Cardiac Emergency System Based on Full Time Perception and Its Application in Traffic Safety”, won the national third prize.

The project was supervised by Zhang Yanbo from the Undergraduate College, Zhao Li from the School of Electronic and Information Engineering, and Yang Changqing from the School of Physical Education. It was jointly completed by ten Chinese and international crossdisciplinary students, including Sun Yangfei (undergraduate from the School of Electronic and Information Engineering), Liu Ziying (undergraduate from the School of Economics and Management), and AGBENU IRENE KORKOR NYENGOR (Ph.D. student from the School of International Education, Ghana), among others. Targeting the public traffic safety challenges in African countries along the Belt and Road, the project proposed a Chinabased solution for the human factors module in intelligent transportation systems.

After the competition, our university's team was warmly received by Dr. Richy, Minister Counsellor of the Embassy of the Republic of Ghana in China. At the Ghanaian embassy, the team reported in detail on the project's progress to the Minister Counsellor and discussed the possibility of its future deployment in Ghana's transportation system.
