Under the personal leadership of these two professors, the famous calligraphers Mr. Liu Zidu and Mr. Chen Zeqin, XATU began to establish a calligraphy teaching team in 1988, focusing on public calligraphy teaching and practical activities, and successfully started a bachelor’s course of calligraphy in 2003, as the first University with calligraphy major in the Northwest of China. At present, School of Chinese Calligraphy of XATU recruits undergraduate and postgraduate students, and also co-cultivates PhD students with Xi’an Academy of Fine Arts. College of Chinese Calligraphy has 15 full-time and part-time teachers, including 4 professors, 5 associate professors, 4 lecturers and 2 assistant lecturers.
With continuous construction and development, College of Chinese Calligraphy has achieved gratifying results in disciplinary construction, talent cultivation, team construction, scientific research, etc. They have undertaken 3 projects of the National Social Science Fund, the Social Science Fund of the Ministry of Education, and the China Federation of Literary and Art Development Fund, as well as 10 provincial projects or other scientific research projects.
Shaanxi Provincial Department of Education and Xi’an Technological University have signed an agreement in November 2017 to jointly establish the College of Chinese Calligraphy. It has been decided that, College of Chinese Calligraphy will not only recruit undergraduate and postgraduate students in calligraphy major, but also build a platform for the education of students outside China, as foreign students especially from countries along the “One Belt and One Road” initiative countries.
